Last winter I received a call from my friend, Alina Roytberg (who also happens to be the co-founder of Fresh, Inc). Fresh was turning 21 this year and she thought it was the perfect opportunity for us to collaborate on a project. I love Alina and I love Fresh so I was inwardly doing cartwheels across the room, out the door & down the street.
I flew to New York where I met with the Fresh team and got my assignment. "It all began with soap" - they told me. So they asked me to do illustrations to capture the story and essence of 3 of their most iconic oval soaps: Sugar, Hesperides Grapefruit & Patchouli.
I returned to LA, got out my scissors, glue and colored paper, and got to work. The images just flowed out of me - and the result was pure joy.

Flash forward to August. I was lying on my couch casually flipping through the gargantuan September issue of Vogue magazine. Turning to page 712, I nearly fell onto the floor. THERE THEY WERE - in all their glory! I instantly envisioned Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Ford and countless others turning to page 712 in their September issues as well and picking up the phone to call me (no calls from them yet).

Last week I found myself in New York again - this time in Fresh's inspiring flagship Union Square store - to celebrate Fashion's Night Out with co-founder, Lev Glazman (the man responsible for their amazing fragrances). They had set up a mini R. Nichols studio where I created original artwork for Fresh's VIP customers. It was also the official launch of the "Fresh Turns 21" oval soap collection and a cool custom set of stationery which I also designed for them.

The "Fresh Turns 21" soaps and stationery are now available in all of their stores as well as on their web site (for a limited time only).

I was about 19 and it was my first year at college. I had never had an STI before and had never had unprotected sex (I was too terrified at the thought of getting pregnant) but I had a boyfriend and he had a cold sore. At the time, we didn’t think of it as being a cold sore and assumed it was just a spot. We had oral sex and that must have been how I got herpes.

Then when the blisters burst, it was agony. Every movement caused me pain and going to the toilet was so painful. The blisters felt like cigarette burns.
AFTER A FEW DAYS OF HOPING IT WOULD GO AWAY, I REALISED I’D HAVE TO GO TO A CLINIC.
I remember being in so much discomfort that I couldn’t face the two buses and a walk it would take me to get there so I just paid for a taxi. I remember watching the meter and hoping I’d get there before it was too expensive.
I’d never been to a sexual health clinic before and I was asked all kinds of questions about my sexual health. I decided to accept the offer of tests for everything.
I KNEW I WAS CAREFUL BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
When they examined me, they immediately knew what it was – herpes. I remember them saying it was one of the worst cases they’d seen and suggested that I come back another time for a full examination and all the tests. I left and started searching for a possible cure for herpes. I came across Dr. Colle’s herbal page and contacted him. He told me he has the cure for herpes, i ordered the medication and took it as prescribed. All the blisters were gone, haven’t had any outbreaks for the past one year and my test results came in showing that my herpes is gone. I can’t thank Dr. Colle enough for his work in my life.

I agree – the comment section is highly, highly undervalued these days, with everyone out to write great posts. Some of the best points come up in conversation, not in the posts themselves
Too, how people word their comments can shut the discussion down tighter than a ship battening its hatches. It’s generally a place where people make statements, and statements don’t encourage more conversation.
